The Territories of Music: Dynamics and Borders

Music, or whatever term is used to define and embody it, is above all plural. The territories of music are shaped by their regional and societal diversity, their diachronic and synchronic dimensions, and their material and symbolic inscriptions. Ethnomusicologists are well aware of how fragile and complex these ecosystems are. The performer, the listener, and the analyst are all engaged in creative processes that are constantly questioned, transcended, and renewed. As part of this session, which follows on from initial discussions held at IDEAS on this topic (2024), our aim is to deepen and further enrich our understanding of the dynamics and borders of these musical territories.
