Congress Overview

To give new momentum to the French musicology network, the French Society of Musicology launched in 2021 a biennial international congress as a privileged forum for exchanges.

After a first edition in Lyon, the second edition was hosted in 2023 in Angers by the Faculty of Humanities at the Catholic University of the West (UCO) and the Department of Philosophy at Nantes University.

The third edition is scheduled for October 23-25, 2025, in Aix-en-Provence, bringing together the following institutions:

• LESA (Laboratory of Arts Sciences Studies — UR 3274)
• ADEF (Learning, Didactics, Evaluation, Training — UR 4671)
• IDEAS (Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology — UMR 7307)
• InCIAM (Institute of Creativity and Innovation)
• IESM (Higher Institute of Music Education Europe and Mediterranean)
• SFERE (Federative Structure for Studies and Research in Education of Provence — FED 4238)

The SFM2025 congress will be hosted at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional of Aix-en-Provence.

Itinerant in nature, the SFM Congress aims to highlight the various locations where musicology is present across the national territory. It also seeks to be a meeting space open to all disciplines of the field, offering researchers, including early-career scholars, the opportunity to share their work.
